Upwards of 300 area veterans and their families were treated to an annual veterans breakfast Friday at the United Auto Workers Local 549 Union Hall in Ontario.

Veterans for Vietnam, Korea, Desert Storm, the War in Iraq and even some WWII vets were in attendance. Local 549 veterans committee members have staged the breakfast for many years and would like to continue the tradition if the hall remains open.

Through the years, the breakfast has evolved from serving just veterans at the General Motors plant to salaried workers who are veterans, then adding veterans in the community and their families.

Local 549 Veterans Committee Commander Earl Hess said this could be the final veterans breakfast held since the plant is closing. But, he said if the union hall maintains a viable presence in the community and remains open, breakfast will be served as usual next year.
