A Perrysville soldier serving in the U.S. Army who was wounded June 14 during a shrapnel explosion in Afghanistan, is now recovering from his injuries in Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland.

U.S. Army Spc. Joshua Sommers remains unconscious, recovering from head injuries he received in the explosion.  He is listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Sommers' mother, father and sister are staying at a hotel near the hospital.

A 2005 graduate of Loudonville High School, who enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2007, Joshua Sommers is a member of the 101st Airborne Unit, the "Screamin' Eagles," based in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
