  Crestline Police Chief Edward "Butch" Wilhite pled guilty Monday in Crawford County Common Pleas Court to 2 misdemeanor charges of tampering with records and dereliction of duty. Wilhite was originally charged with 3 felony counts including tampering with evidence, intimidation and bribery. He pled guilty to first and second degree misdemeanor charges of tampering with records evidence and dereliction of duty. Wilhite admitted to falsifying records for a defendant related to him who was sentenced to serve community service. Wilhite falsified a number of community hours served. Wilhite was sentence to 6 months in jail for the tampering with records charge and 90 days for the dereliction of duty charge. Both sentences were suspended and Wilhite was placed on probation. Wilhite will return to duty the end of this month. He has been on administrative leave since July of last year.
