People prospecting for gold use to be a thing of the past but a local club is bringing back the hobby.

The Ohio Buckeye Chapter of Gold Prospectors Association of America held its 12th Annual Gold Rush Days this past weekend.  It was held at the Swank Claim, one mile east of Butler at the corner of Gatton Rocks and Cutnaw roads near the River Trail Crossing Campground.  Prospecting demonstrations, a speedpanning competition and family and children's activities are part of the event.

Today, there are more than 50,000 Americans involved in recreational gold prospecting or small-scale gold mining operations. The Gold Prospectors Association of America has 80 local Chapters in 30 states and is the world's largest gold prospecting club.
