The Madison Lady Rams volleyball team was upended by Padua in three straight games Thursday night. Madison was looking for revenge after last season's state semi-final loss to the Bruins, who came out swinging, 25-15, 27-25, and 25-19. Padua was a bit quicker and able to capitalize on late-game opportunities. Case in point, game one. Tied at 12 points each, Padua went on a 13 to 3 tear. Kudos to left outside hitter, Kaitlyn Leary. The OSU-bound senior found a home for her hard-pounding kills in the back right corner. Still, Madison rebounded in game two, building a six point edge late in the going, only to see it disappear. Leary's kill, originally called out, was overruled, giving Padua a 26-25 lead, their first since 2-1 early on. Madison's next point sailed wide right, giving the Lady Bruins the game two win. Deflated, but not out, the Rams hung in game three, which featured 15 game ties. Again, Madison was unable to establish any momentum with Padua pouncing on late opportunites to win the game, 25-19, and the match. Padua plays in the regional finals Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Northwest Canal Fulton. The site will be Ontario High School's "O"rena.
