Matt Smith picks off a Howland pass to secure the Arrows 19-14 victory. ..

The Ashland Arrows looked sluggish for the first 3 quarters of Friday nights Regional Semifinal against Warren Howland, as they allowed freshman Deveon Smith to run for over 100 first half yards and were unable to protect qurterback Marcus Fuller. Then trailing 14-0 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Arrows finally caught a break when Tiger punter Chris McClearn fumbled a long snap and was tackled for a big loss setting the Arrows up with good field position. Ashland would capitalize on the drive to make it a 1 possesion game then cause a Deveon Smith fumble on the Tigers insuing drive to regain possesion. Fuller would throw his 2nd TD of the night to Marquis Jones to make it 14-13 after the point after was missed. The Arrows would fail to get an onside kick attempt and it seemed as though the Tigers would be able to run out the clock but the opprotunistic Ashland defense would cause another fumble and recover on their own 40 with approximately 2 minutes to play. A big gainer from Fuller to Chris Thomas would set up Ashland inside the 2 where Fuller would get in on a keeper with 44 ticks on the clock for what would prove to be the game winning score. Matt Smith would seal the deal with a late interception to lock up a 19-14 victory and regional final birth against Mentor next Friday night.
