Chocolate Santa
Cookies
| 2 squares unsweetened
baker's chocolate 2/3 cup shortening (I use Crisco) 1 cup sugar 1 egg, beaten 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/3 cup milk 1 tsp. vanilla FROSTING: In a saucepan, slowly melt chocolate over low heat. Let cool slightly. In a
large bowl, blend cooled chocolate with shortening, sugar and egg. In separate
bowl, mix dry ingredients. Add to chocolate mixture, alternating with milk and
vanilla.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll dough out on lightly floured board until
it's about 1/8 inch thick. Using a cookie cutter, cut dough into Santa shapes
and place on greased cookie sheets. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes. Let cool completely
before removing from cookie sheets to keep from breaking.
To make frosting, sift sugar into bowl. Add shortening and flavorings. Blend
together and add water 1 tablespoon at a time to desired consistency. Decorate
cookies with frosting and small candies of your choice.
