GOODYEAR, ARIZONA-  The Cleveland Indians (94-67 in '16) opened spring training this week in Goodyear, Arizona as the defending American League champions shoot for a return to the World Series.  Although the Indians came up short in one of the best fall classics in recent memory to the Chicago Cubs in extra innings, the experience of being in the World Series and playoffs will always remain.

"That was awesome," said catcher Roberto Perez.  "I feel like that experience for me being for the first time in the postseason. I was living it like it was my last time or the only chance I had.  We played together as a team and it was fun."

"There was definitely memories made," says reliever Cody Allen.  "Some things I look back on quite often more so, the field, the memories and everything you have with your teammates.  It was a great experience and a lot of learning going forward."

Allen also praised the front office for not just returning with the same team, but going out and getting another hitter and pitcher to make the squad better.

"To take a team that we had and push it to the tenth inning in game seven and then try and take that team and make it even better put more of a financial commitment to winning right now says a lot to the players and we want to reward them for that.  It's an exciting time to be a part of this organization.  You go get a bat like Edwin Encarnacion and a guy like Logan Boone who can really compliment our team.  Even guys like Austin Jackson (Chicago White Sox OF) and some of the other pickups we have who may not have got the headlines, but I think those guys will really help us out."

The Indians first Spring Training game will be on February 25, vs the Cincinnati Reds.  The next day the Tribe will play at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona going aginst the Chicago Cubs.  The Indians will open the regular season on the road in Texas against the Rangers on April 3, at 7:05 pm.  The home opener will be Tuesday, April 11, at 4:05 pm vs the Chicago White Sox.
