BELLVILLE, OH-  Despite the weather, next weekend starts spring sports season.  Down at Clear Fork, the defending OCC champion Colts are in a bit of a rebuilding mode after graduation took a chunk of experience, off the diamond.

"Well half the team is gone we graduated six seniors a year ago," says head coach Jeff Gottfried who's team went 22-6 in all games 13-1 in conference play.  We have lots of holes to fill, but we'll start in the middle with a senior Darian Gottfried back as pitcher and that's a great place to start when you got that experience coming back.  We return a catcher Haylie Miller.  We also have a new catcher we will work in Carson Crowner is a freshman.  We got some middle players back, we graduated a centerfielder and a senior shot stop Montana Walker so we have some holes to fill."

"I can see those holes getting filled and it's really nice to see that because people that are not normally stepping up are stepping up and it's cool to see everyone come together as a team and our team chemistry is good.  So we are starting to work together and hopefully we get outside soon."

"I think everything needs work," says junior infielder Zara Thomas.  "But I think together as a team we can push through it.  I think overall we will be fine as long as we push each other and don't criticize, but have constructive criticism."

With six freshman and eight sophomores on the roster, Gottfried was asked if the team will be a work in progress.  "I think that's the way every year is until you figure out what you've got.  I jokingly tell everybody give us 20 games and we will know where we are at.  A lot of times it takes that long.  But when you have the experience inside the circle the kids are gonna rally around her and hopefully, we will be right there when it comes to the end of the season."

Clear Fork is scheduled to open the 2017 softball season at home on Saturday, March 25th against Danville in a doubleheader that begins at 11 am, weather permitting.
