MANSFIELD, OH- Over the last several years, Bellville's Barbara Peiker has continually defied Father Time. The now 63-year-old great grandmother has made distance running her favorite hobby and has separated herself as arguably the best half-marathon runner in her age group on the planet.

The "Grandmaster Grandma", as Peiker has been nicknamed by Sports Buzz host Brian Skowronski joined the show this week to talk about her success as a competitive runner. With an undefeated streak that dates back to 2014, Barbara continues to set records and improve her course times as she ages.

The secret, according to Peiker, is her now patented pink lipstick that she sports during competition. Barbara says wearing "Daisy Duke shorts" and scheduling post-event dinners with her husband Norbert are also key to her prosperity.

As a former marathon runner himself, Norbert schedules Barbara's races and helps her in a variety of different ways. Having been married for 23-years now, Barbara says her husband is still testing her by scheduling "really high-profile races" and challenging courses like the Biltmore Half Marathon she competed in earlier this month in the mountains of North Carolina, where Peiker set the course record in her class.

Norbert was forced to give up distance running after being struck by cancer some 22-years ago, so Barbara also feels as though she is competing for him on race day. She believes the stress and nervousness Norbert feels before her competitions also help her relax and run freer throughout the day.

Peiker will next be in action this September at the Rock n' Roll Half Marathon in Virginia Beach, Virginia where she has won gold the last three years.
