Minutemen Win in Extras

TIFFIN, OH - The Lexington Minutemen are headed back to the D2 Heidelberg District Championship after coming back to defeat the Kenton Wildcats 4-3 in 11 innings on Thursday afternoon.

The Wildcats struck first with a run in the top of the first from a RBI single by Dalton Kessler.

The Minutemen answered in the bottom of the second with a RBI double by Ben Vore and a RBI single by Jacob Reichle making it 2-1 Minutemen.

The #10-seeded Wildcats answered immediately, however, with two runs of their own in the top of the third via RBI by Kessler and Shawn Conover making it 3-2.

That lead held until the bottom of the seventh when the #4-seeded Minutemen struck gold. Josh Aiello hit a one-out double and scored one batter later on a Reichle single off the glove of the shortstop.

The game then went to extra innings and looked like Kenton was in control with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the tenth, but reliever Jared Strickler got the next batter to pop up to second and the final batter to strike out looking to escape the jam.

Lexington then finished things off in the bottom of the eleventh when Vore knocked a RBI single down the third base line scoring Austin Eifrid for the 4-3 walk-off victory.

"I've been seeing the ball well all day and towards the end of the season," said Vore. "I was just trying to look for that first pitch fastball that I've been looking for and I got it and took advantage of it."

Lexington moves on to the D2 Heidelberg District Final on Saturday at 11 am where they will face #6-seeded Clyde, who held off a 7-run Bellevue seventh inning and walked off 12-11 in their semi-final.
