LEXINGTON, OH-  In a race that had nine caution flags, Defiance, Ohio native Sam Hornish Jr. driving the #22 Discount Tire Ford won the fifth annual Mid-Ohio challenge Saturday at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington.  For Hornish, it was his first victory and first top ten finish in 2017 and his first ever win at Mid-Ohio.

"It's a neat experience," said Hornish.  "I've had the opportunity to come to Mid-Ohio as a fan and also as a driver in a lot of different series here.  Had a lot of friends and family down today and to be able to finally punch that ticket to victory lane means a lot to me."

Daniel Hemric driving the #21 Blue Gate Bank Chevrolet took second and posted his first top ten finish at Mid-Ohio and his ninth top ten finish in 2017.  Hemric was also the highest finishing rookie.

"I'm proud of our effort and proud that we were able to bounce back and have a shot at the end," said Hemric.  The guys on pit road did a great job of putting myself to come off pit road leading.  I just didn't take advantage of the opportunity given me."

Coming up in third was Matt Tifft driving the #19 Akron Community Foundation/Acquire Investment Toyota.  Tifft also posted his first top ten finish at Mid-Ohio.

"I kinda played defense today a little bit," said Tifft.  "Just kinda waited for the guys to sort themselves out.  You knew there was gonna be some wrecks going on and a lot of cautions.  I just tried to put myself in a good situation and we were able to survive at the end."

The average speed of the race was just over 64 mph. The nine caution flags stretched the race out to 2 hours 38 minutes.  The next Nascar Xfinity Race will be at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 18th.
