NEWARK, OH - A 9-year-old boy is the suspect in an alleged sex assault at a school in Newark, Ohio.

An investigation by the Licking County Prosecutor and Children's Services are deciding what steps to take next after an administrator here at Legend Elementary reported a 9-yr-old male student assaulted a 6-yr-old female student.

911 call:

"Does she need medical attention? She has a cut on the back of her head that appears superficial to me, although there was some bleeding but not excessive bleeding."

A Newark Police report calls this a sexual assault.

911 call:

"Between a male student and a female student."

Authorities say the boy is in custody of Children's Services and assistant prosecutor Jenny Gonzalez says they'll review the evidence and decide if there are possible charges but says they normally don't prosecute a suspect under 10 years old.

Legend School staff say when the alleged assault happened on Monday they quickly separated the two.

911 call:

"Where is the suspect now? Here at school in a conference room."

And treated the little girl's injuries.

911 call:

"She is in the clinic, the nurse's office."

Newark Schools sent this letter to parents, calling it, "An isolated incident and no other students were impacted or are in any danger."

After the investigation, it will be up to a Licking County juvenile judge or it will be up to a juvenile judge or magistrate as to whether to remove the 9-year-old boy from his home.

Officials say the girl is now back home with her family.
