Crawford Co. SRT Responds To Man Threatening Suicide

GALION, OH - 2nd Avenue in Galion was closed off by Galion Police around 12:51 PM Wednesday, due to an active situation that required barricades.

According to Chief Brian Saterfield of the Galion Police Department, a 73-year-old man barricaded himself inside of his residence, threatening suicide. It was advised that the man was in possession of a weapon. Officers responded to the residence and attempted to make contact by phone, but were initially unsuccessful.

Based on the information available, the Crawford County Special Response Team was activated and a negotiator from the Bucyrus Police Department was asked to come to the scene as a precaution.

Shortly before 2:30 pm, a family member came out of the residence and advised where in the house the man was located. Members of the SRT Team made entry into the residence and were able to make contact with the man without incident. The male was unhurt and was later transported to the hospital. No weapons were located in the residence.
