MANSFIELD, OH- The Ohio State Reformatory was packed, and the surrounding roads from the Reformatory to The Carousel district in Downtown Mansfield were blocked off for the 4th annual Shawshank Hustle on Saturday.

The 7k running race passed by several filming locations from The Shawshank Redemption including The Bissman Building which served as The Portland Daily Bugle and Brewer Hotel, Carousel Antiques which was the Pawn Shop window that Red looked through at the compass, Brook’s Bench where Brooks sits down on the bench in Central Park to feed the birds, and of course, The Ohio State Reformatory which was The Shawshank State Prison.

About 1,300 athletes signed up to run or walk in this year's race.

The event also offered many vendors such as The Cell Block Cafe, Finish Line Engravers, Chaos Cafe, and Ohio Health. Ohio Health, which was the Title Sponsor of this year's Shawshank Hustle, offered physical therapy and stretching for the runners. They also held a raffle for first-time runners to win a new pair of racing shoes.

This year the race was organized by Vertical Runner Race Management out of Wooster. Brian and Tammy Polen, owners of Vertical Runner of Wooster plan to continue organizing the Shawshank Hustle in future years.

Next year will be the 5th anniversary of the Shawshank Hustle as well as the 25th anniversary of the filming of The Shawshank Redemption. This special edition of the Shawshank Hustle is expected to be held August 17, 2019, and will be bigger than ever with some exciting new surprises.
