SHELBY, OH - The Richland County Board of Commissioners have requested that the elimination of retention basins, also known as dry dams, to alleviate issues of flooding in Shelby.

The Board of Commissioners requested that the Black Fork Subdistrict, by way of the Muskingum Conservancy Watershed District, eliminate the implementation of the dry dams from the subdistricts present plan to alleviate the problems associated with flooding in the City of Shelby.

Commissioners cite that the lack of public support for the basins from residents living within the Black Fork Subdistrict led them to believe implementing them would not accurately represent public sentiment.

Muskingum was also requested to continue to work with the Subdistrict on a hydraulics only solution to Shelby's flooding problems.
