MANSFIELD, OH - In the Tuesday meeting of the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education, Board Members approved an Employee Severance Plan (ESP) as a proactive cost-saving step to help avoid steep cuts in educational programs and potential layoffs in the district. According to Mansfield Schools Employee Association President Pam Jones, the newly-approved ESP was "definitely a win" for employees and the district as a whole.

"When I got it, I was excited," Jones said. "I contacted my labor-relations consultant, Nicole Smith, and said 'Let's get somebody to review this.' The attorney went through it, we had conversations and all those kinds of things, and said it was a rock-solid kind of thing. Mister Kuehnle gave me all of the information for the company so I could call them and do whatever I needed to do. It's a very exciting thing for us."

The district projects that approximately 40 employees who are at or near the top of the pay scale will voluntarily accept the ESP, reducing the number of high-salaried staff while maintaining the highest possible educational standards. Overall, the district expects that the plan will help to save millions of dollars over the next several years.

"I would consider this definitely a win for our employees," Jones said. "...and for the district. I'm going to say it's for both, definitely."
