Child Rapist Sentenced To Life In Prison In Marion County

MARION COUNTY, OH - 41-year-old Steven Hardin has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to two counts of rape of a four year old.

Judge Warren Edwards of the Marion County Common Pleas Court passed down the sentence today. Hardin had previously been sentenced to life in prison with possibility of parole after 15 years for another count of rape, which will be served consecutively.

"My office will continue to aggressively prosecute those individuals who prey on our community's children and hold them accountable for their egregious actions," said Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan. "This case is certainly tragic and my hope is that this sentence brings a measure of closure to the victim and the victim's family."

Assistant Marion County Prosecutor Margaret Moore, who handled the case, said that justice had been served. "The facts of this case and the evidence provided by the investigating agencies were key in holding the defendant accountable for his actions. While no amount of prison time will ever make the victim whole again, I hope that the victim and the victim's family can sleep a little easier knowing that the defendant will spend the rest of his life in prison."

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office released a statement thanking Marion County Children Services, the Marion Police Department, the Ohio Attorney General's Office, and Marion General Hospital's Sexual Assault Nursing Staff for their work on the case.
