RICHLAND COUNTY, OH - Jake Penwell is one of Richland County's 10 Under 40!

Jake Penwell is the proud owner and co-operator of Penwell Turner Funeral Home. It all began in 2003, when 14-year-old Jake shadowed Bob Turner at the funeral home as a part of the Shelby Rotary Club Shadowing Day. Later than same year, Jake began working for the Turners, and they have been a team ever since.

"It's a different path than most... but my definite passion is helping people through a transitional period where they've experienced the greatest loss in their life, helping them ease through that loss and transition to a period of comfort. It's a wonderful, rewarding job, that's for sure," Jake told WMFD.

Always holding the Shelby and Richland County community in his heart, Jake says he has a passion for making his town the best place it can be to live and work. His consistent and passionate involvement in Shelby and Richland County is one of the many reasons he was named one of Richland Young Professionals' 10 Under 40.

"I have had three different friends that have been recipients, and I was just so proud of them and that accomplishment because I know how hard they work to make their community better and their professional lives better," Jake said. "But it never quite clicked with me that I was one of those people, too. It's a true honor. I'm very humbled and honored to be amongst- what a great group of 10 Under 40 for 2019. It's just a great group of people and I'm honored to be a part of that."

The Richland Young Professionals 10 Under 40 award spotlights some of the brightest stars in Richland County! Stay tuned to Newswatch at 5, 6, 10 and 11 every Wednesday and Friday during the month of May for more spotlight pieces.
