MANSFIELD, OH- The second annual Pound and Pour fundraiser helped to pound out ALS on Saturday at Phoenix Brewing Co.

The fundraiser raised money for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) research and supported the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI) according to event coordinator, Brandy Lay.

"We are putting on a 'Pound and Pour.'  It's a Pound out ALS event and there are two Pound classes and basically people pay $20 and they do the pound class and then they get a token for a free beverage and all proceeds go to ALS TDI who have partnered with us this year," Lay said.

Lay said that she wanted support ALS TDI because of their sole focus on researching ALS.

"ALS TDI, they are an institute in Massachusetts that they are focused solely on ALS.  They do research on the siratic and the hereditary type and they're trying to come up with effective treatments and a cure for ALS," Lay said.

The event also featured a silent auction on gift baskets donated by local organizations.

"We have had lots of people coming out to bid on the baskets that we have from local companies and lots of people coming out to do the pound class," Lay said.

ALS research has a special place in Lay's heart and she was pleased with the event's turn out.

"My dad had ALS for almost 10 years and he passed away four years ago and he wanted to see ALS survivors so that's what we are out here to try and accomplish," Lay said.
