MANSFIELD, OH- The long awaited Splash Pad Park at the Mansfield YMCA officially opened on Saturday.

The community was excited for the opening and YMCA Member, Stephen Green said that his children really enjoy the new feature.

"It's actually a dream come true for some of us older YMCA Members here," Green said.  "It's finally a dream come true to see our kids be able to come out here and just to have fun and do some things that we've never been able to do."

The new park is focused on inclusivity.  The water features have many different areas for people of all ages and abilities.

President/CEO of the Mansfield Area YMCA, Cristen Gilbert said that the project has been a long time coming at the Splash Park ribbon cutting on Tuesday.

"This has been a project in the works for the last 18 months.  We had some obstacles last year that didn't allow us to open, but I think as everybody can see it's worth the wait," Gilbert said.

The community is glad to have a new and fun way to beat the heat this summer according to Green.

"I'm just glad that they did something like this for the kids.  It's good to see a lot of different faces out here, bringing people out and that's what it's all about, unity and bringing everybody together," Green said.
