MANSFIELD, OH - The Mansfield Division of Police released a number of statistics on crime within the city, with a specific emphasis on rising numbers of stolen vehicles.

From January 1st of 2019 through June 10th of 2019, over 52 vehicles were reported stolen within Mansfield. Compared to statistics from the same period in 2018, stolen vehicle reports increased by 108%. A breakdown of other statistics can be found below.

  • 65.8% of thefts are said to occur Monday through Thursday and were reported between the hours of midnight (12 AM) through 3 PM.
  • 21% of thefts occurred when drivers left their keys in the vehicle.
  • 10% of thefts occurred when a friend or acquaintance of the victim left with the vehicle keys and took the vehicle without permission.

The Mansfield Division of Police urges members of the public to never leave keys in the ignition, the glovebox, or the center console of a vehicle. Keep keys, valuables, or other items of interest out of sight or in places that aren't easily accessible. Lock your vehicle whenever possible to limit access to the inside and to complicate theft efforts. Keep garage doors closed and windows and doors to your home secured whenever possible. Report suspicious activity or individuals in your neighborhood.
