ONTARIO, OH- After taking over as the Springfield Township Fire Department Chief, Matthew Carey is trying out a new way of keeping the community informed.

The Springfield Township Fire Department has been making good use of their Facebook page to let the community know what is going on at the fire station.

"We realize that social media is where a lot of people go to get information now," Carey said.  "We've been posting a lot of the things going on, events, any of our runs, and that kind of stuff to try and get people to interact with us and see what we do every day."

The department has been posting every time they are out on a call so that they public can better understand what is going on when they see Springfield Fire vehicles out.

Chief Carey said that the increased community engagement has been getting a positive reaction from the community.

"We felt like it was easier to interact with people," Carey said.  "It's instantaneous, people can talk to you right away."
